Jammu, Jul 24 (KNO): As the National Conference (NC) leaders claim that the party has already gone into the election mode but on ground nothing like that is being observed anywhere in all 10 districts of Jammu region. Apart from the one public rally of NC vice president Omar Abdullah, which he addressed in Gurha Slathia in Samba district of Jammu region, no political activity is seen anywhere. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Omar Abdullah’s rally marked the beginning of the NC’s political campaign in Jammu region which will follow party’s meetings at every district headquarters. But so far no plan has been made as and when the party will head towards interior districts where once the NC used to be a force to reckon with. “All the 10 district presidents of the party will have to submit the proposals when and where they will start the campaigning but so far none of them has submitted any such plans. Not even committees have been formed which will decide who are the probable candidates for Assembly elections,” a source in NC told the KNO. Apart from the manifesto committee, which met a couple of times in Srinagar, no meetings of any committees, either at the provincial level or at district levels are being held. In yesteryears, NC had presence in eight out of 10 districts of Jammu region when party leaders won Assembly elections in these districts. In 2014, NC had managed to win two Assembly seats from Jammu district whereas traditionally Chenab valley and Pir Panjal region has remained a stronghold of the party in the past. Talking to the KNO, NC provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta said that Omar Abdullah’s rally in Gurha Slathia marked the beginning of the party's electoral process which will be followed by different activities at district level. “Omar sb’s rally in Veeron Ki Dharti (land of soldiers) has put the party in the election mode and it is surely to bring Fateh (victory). Now, things will move to districts step by step,” he said—(KNO)
